How one day a week will shift your entire mindset

Do you set aside one day a week for God? Do you seek one day of rest like He did?

Do you love Sundays as much as I do?

I don’t know about you, but I protect Sunday fiercely.

Not only is it the one day a week where I get to gather with other believers and worship God, but it is the one day of the week that I choose as Sabbath.

A typical Sunday in my house, while it does involve a fair amount of napping, my Sabbath lately has come in the form of these blog posts. I use the later part of the afternoon to go into a quiet room, pray, read my bible and write these posts to you.

And yes, I get emails thanking me for them, and it gets my business noticed. But the biggest blessing of these Sunday posts is the time that I get to rest in God’s Word when I write them.

Some weeks, the words spill out, and some weeks I sit here and struggle with what to say. But no matter how the writing goes, when I pour myself into the Word, I feel refreshed, content and ready to start a new week. And because so many of you look forward to these posts, I have to personally thank you for the accountability! Since you are reading them, I keep writing them. And if I have to write them, I have to be in the Word. It’s a wonderful and beautiful cycle!

“So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God,  for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.
Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.  For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

 Hebrews 4: 9-12

So how do you find your Sabbath rest? How do you find the time to slow down?

It will look different for everyone. For me, as I said earlier, I protect my Sunday. I say no to anything that isn’t necessary. I try not to make any plans outside of church, and instead spend time resting with my family and spending time in my bible. And believe it or not… working around my house, doing laundry, cleaning… While it is work, it’s strangely therapeutic for me, therefore I allow myself to indulge a little bit on Sundays 🙂 And that’s ok!

• Ask yourself how you can find that time to rest in God and protect it?
• How can you find chunks of time where you show up and expect to hear from God?

I’d love to hear about your Sabbath rest, friend. And if you don’t currently practice Sabbath rest, I encourage you to start! You’ll be amazed at how just one day can make an entire week more bearable.

Comment below and tell me where you are at. And if you aren’t allowing yourself time to rest, tell me, I’ll hold you accountable. It’s that important. We’re in this together!

Happy Sabbath!!
Angie
