“..the Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.” Jeremiah 31:3
One of the greatest promises that God makes to each one of us is that His love is everlasting. It’s not conditional, it’s not short-tempered, emotional or variable. God loves in a way that we can’t fathom because His love is promised to be everlasting.
When I read this short verse in Jeremiah, I’m struck by how He adds that little bit on the end, saying that “therefore, I have continued my faithfulness to you”. The book of Jeremiah follows a man tasked with telling people what they don’t want to hear. He wasn’t supported by many, suffered many setbacks and kept getting delivered bad news by God. And it was His job to deliver the bad news to the people who didn’t care to hear it.
Throughout a difficult time and despite uncertain circumstances, God reminds His people in this one verse that even when it looks like He’s turning on them or even if they feel like He’s distant, that in all of this, He loves them unconditionally. Because His love doesn’t wane with the seasons or come with terms, He loves with an everlasting love.
Can you imagine loving like that?
While we as humans can’t always love like we’d like to, we can be reassured by these words that God spoke in the Bible. Because His words never change, and they never fail. So just as true as it was when He spoke to the Judeans in this passage, it’s true for you today.
Because God loves YOU with that same everlasting love!
It doesn’t matter if you think that you’ve failed, or if you worry that you don’t measure up, because God’s everlasting love surpasses all of that! When you feel down on yourself or less than loveable, it doesn’t matter to Him, His love for you is steadfast.
These beautiful words of encouragement from Jeremiah inspired me to create this collection because I want you to be able to see these words daily. They are that important!
Write these words down, put them somewhere where you can see them. Because on days when you feel unloveable, it’s important to remember that you are in fact, loved with an EVERLASTING LOVE. Don’t let yourself forget that.
