Have you ever stumbled upon a feeling of peace that didn’t make sense?
Where everyone around you is in awe of the peace you display in a troubling situation? That’s God’s peace. It’s supernatural…and real!
I don’t know if you read my posts regularly, but if you do, you’ll know that I’ve been riding a bit of a storm lately. I’ve been praying for God to show me His will, asking Him to guide my steps. And even when I moved forward, I still had this uneasy feeling that I was jumping out of a boat in the middle of a storm. Everything that felt comfortable, familiar and good to me was suddenly not where God wanted me.
I kept on asking Him “why?” I’ve been carrying around this anger, this grief and all of these unanswered “what if’s” for months.
And today, everything is different.
God has given me a gift, one that He promises, and I know I’ve heard often, but typically take for granted.
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Today, which started out as a normal Sunday morning, with a heavy heart and uncertainty, ended with a peace that only God could take credit for. Nothing was different, nothing has changed. But He took a hard hold of my heart, and gave me a healthy dose of His supernatural peace, that makes no earthly sense
I feel released of the anger.
I feel delivered from the thick grief.
I feel renewed appreciation for God’s church.
I feel that everything I needed to say and do, I’ve done in the last few months. I’ve fought the battle He lovingly asked me to fight.
I trust that God is taking it from here. That I no longer have to fight, that He wants me to finally just rest and enjoy Him.
It reminds me of a story in Mark 4:
On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
What a gift, friend!!!! It’s like a ton of bricks have been lifted off of my shoulders. And in essence, they have. God’s been trying to take them from me for over a year now, but today I finally surrendered the burden to Him.
And I didn’t have to do any of it myself.
God just took it from me and asked me to enjoy it When I thought He was asleep and ignoring my cries for help, HE was actually just letting me endure what He knew was safe, but also letting me see that He has complete control and that none of this has snuck past Him.
Friend, I don’t know what is going on in your life right now, but…
I want to encourage you to hold on. Stand strong. While things may not seem clear or right in this moment, God isn’t asleep, He is working on your behalf.
He sees what has happened to you, He sees where you are.
He knows the storm you may be sailing through.
And the blessing is, He can also see what lies ahead for you. So what doesn’t make sense now is ok.
It’s ok to feel what you are feeling.
But just know that God’s peace is there for you. Ask Him for it, and wait expectantly for it. When His time is right, you will know and you will have a day like I’m having today.
But until you experience peace in whatever trials you are facing, God is always there, always working, never once forgetting about you. He loves you and knows what you need. He’s building strength in you that you never knew you had.
And hopefully soon you will get to say that you, too, get to rest in the strength He’s been building in you, just like He’s doing in me
Have a wonderful week!!
